Does not matter whether it’s your first interview or your fifth, everyone can use a few pointers to help them through the interview.

  • Do your homework and always be curious
Always research the company before the interview. This can help you earn extra points as it is very important to have wide knowledge about the company you are hoping to join. However it might be a challenge to find details about a small, private company as compared to the huge companies. If you are struggling to uncover anything on the company, become curious. Focus your questions on how the company overcame any of its hurdles or how the team members work to tackle certain challenges.
  • Remain calm under pressure
Candidates who own up to their limits are always admired. It’s okay to answer a question simply by “I don’t know”. Always remain calm by giving straightforward and clear answers. Ranting off-topic answers signify that you are nervous and on the verge of panic. Sometimes tricky questions are asked irrelevant to the candidate’s role just to see how they tackle a particular situation being ill-prepared.
  • Be enthusiastic
Be enthusiastic about yourself, skills, talents, past accomplishments, projects, the role, and the prospects of joining the team. Professionalism is always preferred and never be scared to show your enthusiasm during your interview. Smile and get excited!
  • Firm handshake
Dressing well being the first impression, landing a solid handshake is the next important impression. An appropriate handshake is firm and starts with your hand slightly turned inwards. An inappropriate handshake is sloppy, weak, and uncomfortably sweaty. Refusing to shake is a great way to end an interview before it begins.
