During an event at Punjabi University Patiala, protesters raised slogans against Punjab CM Praksh Singh Badal. The protesters raised slogans demanding action on Sikh political prisoners.

The protesters were quickly taken into custody by police and taken outside. After the shoe throwing incident by Bikram Dhanuala, this is the most recent incident of protest against CM Badal.

The various videos online show how the police is treating people in a harsh way to suppress the voices of those not in power or any strength.

Freedom of speech which is a basic democratic right is being taken away very easily with the use of power and strength of Punjab police.

Activists of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD-Amritsar) raised pro-Khalistan slogans during an address by Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Sunday, even as the chief Minister cautioned people against attempts to foment sectarian divide and fanaticism.

The Chief Minister was presiding over a function for inaugurating the Bhagwan Parshuram Chair for Indian Literature and Culture in Punjabi University's Department of Hindi Two protesters, identified as Sarup Singh Sandha and Rajindr Singh Channa, began raising pro-Khalistan and anti- Badal slogans during Badal’s speech but were swiftly arrested and whisked away.

The chief minister, however, chose to down play the incident, saying only that it was better to ignore “such elements”.

Addressing the function, Badal said: "No society can survive for long if it forgets its culture and rich traditional values."

"To sustain sectarian values or cultivate fanaticism is dangerous not only for others but also for those who promote its cause," Badal said.

Badal also announced a Swami Ram Tirath for Rs 200 crore and a war memorial near Amritsar. PTI
