In a suspected terror attack, gunmen wearing army uniform on Monday attacked a bus, a health centre and a police station, leaving 13 persons, including three policeman and three militants, dead and several injured in Gurdaspur district of Punjab.
According to reports, the Gurdaspur encounter is over as all terrorists holed up in the police station have been killed.
Many injured when heavily-armed terrorists wearing Army fatigues hijacked a car, drove down to this town in Punjab's Gurdaspur district, peppered the bus stand with bullets and then stormed a police station -- shattering two decades of calm in the state. A Security alert has been sounded in the Parliament premises, with security forces deployed at the site, in the wake of the Gurdaspur terror attack.
Security has also been tightened at the North Block after the terror incident, which has so far claimed the lives of 10 people, including six civilians.
Meanwhile, security measures have also been enhanced in Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier held a high-level meeting in Parliament with Union Ministers Manohar Parrikar, Arun Jaitley and Venkaiah Naidu.
Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi has condemned the attack, saying his prayers were with the families of those of who lost their lives in the attack.
IG Border Zone, Ishwar Chander, said there is no hostage situation till now while Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar stated that Special Forces have been deployed in Gurdaspur and the counter insurgency forces are already there.

A major railway tragedy was averted after five live bombs found near a bridge on the railway track on the Amritsar-Pathankot section. The bombs were carefully wired to the railway track at a small bridge near Parmanand railway station, five km from Dinanagar.

At 08:47 AM : Suspected terrorists from Pakistan early Monday fired indiscriminately in Punjab’s Dinanagar town in the frontier district of Gurdaspur, leaving at least three people killed and five injured. The terrorists fired at people near the Dinanagar bus stand and then attacked the Dinanagar police station. Dinanagar town is close to the Jammu and Kashmir border. According to police, the attackers first targeted a roadside eatery and took off in a Maruti 800 with Punjab registration number. They shot dead a roadside vendor near Dinanagar bypass. They then opened fire on the bus before targeting a community health centre adjacent to Dinanagar police station, killing three civilians including a woman and a policeman. The gunmen then entered the Dinanagar police station and opened fire in which five policemen were seriously injured.
